Planning your romantic Peak District weekend

Nestled in the heart of the Derbyshire Peak District, Hoe Grange Holidays offers a picturesque backdrop for a romantic weekend getaway. Imagine exploring the stunning landscape, enjoying a romantic meal, and unwinding in a hot tub under a starry sky.

The Peak District is an iconic destination, renowned for its beautiful scenery, charming countryside pubs, and quaint towns and villages. Whether you're celebrating Valentine’s Day, looking for the best place to propose, or simply seeking a romantic retreat, there is something for everyone.

We’ve put together some top tips for planning your perfect romantic Peak District holiday below.

Choosing the right time for your romantic getaway

The Peak District offers something special throughout the year, but the best time for a romantic weekend getaway depends on your preferences. Spring and summer provide lush greenery and warm weather for outdoor activities, while autumn showcases stunning foliage and cosy vibes. Winter offers the possibility of snowy landscapes or delicate frosty mornings, perfect for a snug retreat.

Consider planning your visit around local events for an enhanced experience. Whatever time you choose, the Peak District promises a truly memorable romantic break.

Finding your ideal accommodation

Hoe Grange is the perfect base to explore the Peak District National Park from. Choose a spacious log cabin, a warm and cosy glamping pod, or our lovingly restored vintage bow-top caravan for the perfect setting for your escape. Enjoy a warm welcome from David, Felicity and Caroline and a pack of delicious local goodies on arrival.

What's your perfect romantic weekend in the Peak District?

There are so many things to see and do, so we’ve put together some suggested activities to help you plan your perfect itinerary.

Day 1

Settle into your cosy glamping pod and embrace the tranquil surroundings of the Peak District. The intimate setting sets the stage for a romantic retreat, enveloped in the natural beauty of the area.

Unwind in your glamping pod

Unpack and unwind in the comfort of your glamping pod, with stunning views over the Derbyshire countryside. Our eco pods are chic, mini log cabins for two, with the added luxury of your own kitchenette and en-suite bathroom. Enjoy the peace and quiet, watch our pygmy goats at play and spot the wildlife.

If your partner loves flowers, order ahead with Angel Blooms to have a beautiful bouquet of fresh flowers delivered to your pod as a welcome surprise.

Craft your own pizzas

Book our pizza oven experience and spend the evening creating your own delicious pizzas. We provide homemade dough and passata - all you have to do is add your favourite toppings. Enjoy with some local brewed beer or wine, and grab some delicious Jersey ice cream from our on-site shop for a sweet treat dessert.

A cosy evening by the firepit

As the sun sets behind the rolling hills, indulge in a cosy evening by the firepit. Embrace the warmth of the crackling flames and enjoy the tranquil ambience of the Peak District countryside as you toast marshmallows. Relax and treasure each other's company under the stars in this designated dark sky area.

Day 2

Breakfast in bed and a morning stroll along the High Peak Trail await you on the second day of your romantic weekend in the Peak District. Take your time to savour the stunning landscape and plan your perfect adventure in the surrounding countryside. As the day unfolds, look forward to a candlelit dinner, creating magical moments to cherish.

Breakfast in bed

Indulge in a lazy morning with breakfast in bed to kickstart your romantic weekend in the Peak District.

Enjoy a leisurely start to your day over hot buttery toast and the freshest of eggs from our free range chickens on the farm – it’s amazing how golden yellow the yolks are compared to eggs you get in the shops!

With stunning views from your bed across the rolling farm fields, this will feel like a luxurious start and set the perfect tone for a day of relaxation and exploration in the stunning landscape.

A morning stroll along the High Peak Trail

Consider starting your adventures with a stroll along the High Peak Trail. Breathe the fresh air and admire the panoramic views as  you stride up to Minninglow, a nearby Neolithic burial tomb. From here, you can see for miles and really get a sense of connection to the landscape and the people of the past.

Pack a picnic of locally-sourced goodies from Sauced Here, or pop over to a local village pub for lunch to keep your energy levels up!

Find your perfect adventure

The most romantic activities are unique to you as a couple – things you know you’ll both enjoy, that speak to your passions and interests.

Find your own perfect adventure in the afternoon of your second day. Explore the local trails on a tandem bicycle, discover the beauty of Lathkill Dale as you walk hand-in-hand along the river bank, laugh together as you play pooh sticks at Tissington Ford, or recreate iconic scenes from Pride & Prejudice at Stanage Edge.

If you’re looking for something to get your adrenaline pumping, try paddleboarding at Carsington Water, climbing at Harborough Rocks, or go underground in the caverns near Castleton.

Whatever floats your boat and helps you reconnect as a couple!

Romantic candlelit dinner

Indulge in a dreamy candlelit dinner at one of our favourite Peak District dining spots. Discover the perfect setting for intimate conversations and shared moments.

For the ultimate luxurious fine dining experience, book at table at Fischer's at Baslow Hall – a true delight for your taste buds, and the best customer experience we’ve ever had!

For something special that’s a little kinder on the wallet, head to Le Mistral in Wirksworth, an award-winning French-inspired bistro and wine shop.

Day 3

After a day full of adventures, it's time to relax. Day three is all about recharging your batteries.

A lazy morning

Take time to enjoy each other’s company over a leisurely breakfast – perhaps enjoying some locally-produced bacon from our on-site shop. Sip your specially blended Hoe Grange coffee as you immerse yourself in peaceful surroundings and relax into the day.

Lunch at The Olde Gate Inne, Brassington

Meander over the footpaths to Brassington village (a lovely 1.5 mile walk over the fields) to The Olde Gate Inne - don't forget to admire the incredible views along the way! This traditional village pub wouldn’t be out of place a few centuries ago, with a roaring range fire, oak beams across the ceilings, and a warm welcome from the local landlord. It's also dog-friendly.

Enjoy a tasty meal together or sit by the fire and sample some of the local beers before you stroll back to Hoe Grange.

Pure relaxation

For the rest of your day, focus on pure relaxation. Indulge in spa treatments in your pod from The Wellness Brand, unwind in our log-fired hot tub, or rejuvenate with a steamy sauna session. The tranquil setting is the perfect backdrop for an evening of serenity.

Day 4

Wake up to stunning views of the surrounding countryside on your last day. Immerse yourselves in the local area and find some souvenirs to help you treasure the memories forever.

Explore charming villages and market towns

Discover some of the jewels of the Peak District on your way home. From the picturesque streets of Ashbourne to the peace and quiet of Tissington, or the quirky independent shops of Wirksworth to the bustling market in Bakewell, each has its own unique charm. There’s plenty to explore – and you’ll feel like you’ve just walked into a postcard picture!

Don’t miss the opportunity to wander through meandering streets, discover some locally-made souvenirs to remember your holiday, or indulge in some delicious Peak District treats.
