Our self-catering log cabins are situated on the southern edge of the Peak District, and are a fantastic holiday option for someone living with dementia and their families. Near to Ashbourne and Bakewell, Hoe Grange Holidays is an ideal base from which to explore everything the area has to offer. You'll discover the many reasons why the Peak District was the designated as the first National Park!
We are proud to have won national awards for our accessible self-catering holiday cottages and try our best to ensure that we are as inclusive as possible.
We welcome people living with dementia and are extremely lucky that Derbyshire is one of the most accessible tourist destinations in the UK. You’ll be sure to find suitable places to visit and activities for all interests and abilities.
Through personal experience we know and understand the impact that dementia can have on someone’s life and their family.
Felicity’s mother, Olive, lived with dementia in her early 90s. It was sad to see such an active and intelligent person who was a Leading WREN, dismantling and reassembling torpedoes on naval ships during the war, decline and unable to recognise close family members. We know the value of spending quality time with someone who has dementia. Olive loved visiting our farm, watching the animals and enjoying the peaceful environment.
We know that it can be challenging for those living with dementia and that everyday is different. But we also know that many people with dementia continue to live well, be active and carry on with the things they enjoy.
We are here to help if you have any questions or specific needs. We are happy to rearrange furniture, receive delivery of additional equipment ready for your arrival or help arrange cakes and flowers to make your celebrations extra special. Let us know how we can help by calling David and Felicity on 01629 540262 or email info@hoegrangeholidays.co.uk

Finding a dementia inclusive cottage in the UK can be difficult and we realise that a holiday break can be stressful for everyone, including the carer. From experience we understand some of the challenges for those living with dementia and feel well placed to ensure that they have a wonderful holiday at Hoe Grange.
We know how important it is for people with dementia and carers to have information about where they’re going before their holiday in our log cabins.
To help reassure you, our website has helpful information about each log cabin, including floor plans and virtual 3D tours. The photo galleries also help people with dementia visualize where they will be staying, thus reducing anxiety. After you’ve booked your holiday you can view the 3D tours and photos many times before you arrive to give a feeling of familiarity and reduce stress.
The log cabins have level thresholds throughout and three of them have spacious wet rooms with grab rails. On arrival there is tea, milk and home made biscuits so you can immediately relax and enjoy the stunning views.
The open plan kitchen/lounges enable you to keep an eye on the person with dementia. Keeping routines can be very important so our self catering vacation rental allows you to work to your timetable for meal times and bed times. The log cabins are fully equipped with everything you need, but you are welcome to bring favourite items along. It is often very reassuring if the person with dementia can see familiar things around them, as is a playlist of personal music.
No need to overload the car, we have a wide range of accessible equipment available free of charge, including shower chairs, rise and recline armchairs, electric profile beds, bed rails, foldable wheelchair, wake n shake alarm clocks, portable hearing loop and much more. Just add them when you book your holiday to make sure they are available.
Waterproof mattress protectors are provided and there is a laundry facility in the farmyard, so there is no need to worry about the odd accident.
Some of our guests may have limited mobility. Whilst our holiday cottages are on a hill there is no need to worry as each cabin has its own parking space with easy, level or gentle ramp access right to the door.
The enclosed decking areas can prevent someone wandering off and getting lost. The cabins are spacious and clutter free providing a calm environment.
The overriding comment from guests is the peace and quiet they experience while on holiday at Hoe Grange. No traffic noise, few people about, just the natural sound of birds singing and farm animals grazing in the surrounding fields, with the occasional passing tractor. Guests can spend quality time together relaxing on the decking and enjoying the views. Time spent in nature can improve mood and enable people living with dementia to feel more connected to the world around them.
As well as cows, sheep and pygmy goats we also have a wealth of wildlife on the farm including, buzzards, magpies, pheasants, foxes, rabbits, and hares, so keep your eyes peeled!
Dogs are so much part of the family and to someone with dementia they often provide much needed reassurance. Our pet friendly accommodation is ideal with wonderful walks from the door. As part of our dog-friendly holidays we also provide a doggy welcome pack and we can tell you the best dog-friendly places to visit.
Holidays can help stimulate the senses and connect people with dementia to meaningful places. Reminiscing about past visits to the Peak District can help people connect with loved ones and also create new memories to treasure for their families. Our accessible log cabins are also suitable for wheelchair users, and people with visual or hearing impairments too.
