This website accessibility statement applies to www.hoegrangeholidays.co.uk.
Our aim is to make sure this website is usable by everybody, regardless of age or disability.
Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG)
The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) set out requirements for designers and developers to improve accessibility for people with disabilities. Hoe Grange Holidays is working towards meeting WCAG 2.2 level AA. This means that some parts of the website content do not fully meet the accessibility standard at the moment.
We have completed an audit (June 2025) and are working to increase the proportion of content that meets the standard by December 2026.
Using our site
We want as many people as possible to be able to use this site easily.
This means you can:
- Navigate the website using a keyboard
- Listen to the website and booking calendar using a screen reader
- Access the website and booking calendar from both mobile and desktop devices with full functionality
- Download PDFs that are compatible with screen readers
- Listen to the Guest Login portal using a screen reader
- Pay using different methods – debit or credit card, or bank transfer
What else we have done to increase accessibility
- We follow plain English guidelines and make the website text as simple as possible to understand
- We do our best to make sure every webpage has the right heading structure to help you find your way around
- We include our phone number at the top of every page to make it easier to contact us
- We have tried to use colours and text sizes that make the words on our website easy to read, but we know there is no one solution that works for everyone
- We have a drop-down menu to help you find the information you are looking for
- We include photo galleries (with alt text) and virtual tours of all our properties
- We have a list of all our accessibility equipment with photos and details
- We have an online booking calendar and form
- We include lots of information to help plan your holiday, from how to get here to what to do when you arrive (with lots of accessibility information)
Additional assistive technology
You can also use our additional accessibility toolbar, ReciteMe, by selecting the Accessibility icon in the bottom right-hand corner of your screen.
Through the toolbar, you can use text-to-speech functionality, fully customisable styling features, reading aids and a translation tool with over 100 languages. The toolbar itself meets WCAG 2.2 level AA standards.
This has been recommended to us by people who are neurodivergent. It is designed for people who don’t have existing assistive tools on their devices, and we are currently testing it to make sure it does not introduce additional barriers for anyone. If you have any feedback on this toolbar, please get in touch with us by email, call us on 01629 540262 or text us on 07769 222745.
Known limitations
While we are always trying to maintain a high standard of online accessibility, there are some things we know aren't accessible for everyone at the moment:
- Some videos may not have alt descriptions, mostly in older blogs.
- Our booking calendar does not use high contrast colours. We use grey to show properties that are not available. Through testing, we have found that a higher contrast colour was confusing as users thought it showed a property was available. Available holiday start dates are shown in higher contrast colours.
- Our booking form is a third-party widget and is only partially readable with a screen reader. You can place a booking and review the details, but there are areas for improvement. We are working with our booking platform provider to help fix these.
- Our events calendar can be tricky to navigate using a keyboard but you can still listen to the content using a screen reader. We are exploring alternative solutions.
- Our 3D virtual tours may not have alt descriptions. We are working towards providing this information in alternative formats.
Browsers
We test the site at least once a year to make sure it works in all the browsers below. If you view the website on an older browser, you may find pages don’t display as designed. We recommend you upgrade your browser to the latest version.
What we're doing to improve accessibility
Online accessibility is as important to us as accessibility on-site. We’re passionate about trying to make holidays accessible to as many people as possible, from researching what’s available all the way through to your experience on the farm.
We know that we have work to do to make this website as accessible as it can be, and are committed to making the changes we have identified in our improvement plan. These include things like manually reviewing our alt text to make sure it makes sense, reviewing all our colour contrasts, and fixing some structural problems.
