Getting outside and active with family and friends is not just invigorating but its also good for your well-being.
There are miles of footpaths and historic tracks to explore. Follow our circular Hoe Grange Time Traveller's Trail, trek along the High Peak Trail to Middleton Top Countryside Centre, or explore further along the Peak District Boundary Walk or take a Guided Tour.
You'll find routes for all abilities on our cycling page so you can admire the views as you pedal through the Peak District countryside.
We're near to Carsington Water so you can have fun sailing, canoeing, windsurfing, stand up paddle boarding, or fly fishing. Launch your own dinghy or windsurfer from Carsington Sailing Club. Bring your own horse on holiday to explore the local trails and bridle paths, from short loops to long endurance rides.
The Peak District is one of the most popular climbing areas in the UK, providing challenges on both gritstone and limestone crags.
For beginners, Harborough Rocks is just 2 miles down the road; a friendly little crag with a good rock for those just starting, yet plenty of challenges for an evening’s bouldering.
For the more adventurous, Froggatt Edge and Stanage Edge to the north, and The Roaches to the west are within 40 minutes. Nearby are the limestone crags of High Tor near Matlock Bath and the grit of Black Rocks, Cromford.
Wirksworth Leisure Centre has an excellent indoor wall for beginners to intermediates.
Acclimbatize provide outdoor adventure for groups including, climbing, caving, potholing, canoeing, abseiling and much more.
Peak Pursuits – create your own mini-adventure with a half day outdoor pursuits session. Choose from canoeing, kayaking, climbing, abseiling, archery, and orienteering.
