The Olympic torch passed through Ashbourne yesterday, so we felt we had to witness this once in a lifetime event. The Olympic flame flashes past! It was a wonderful carnival atmosphere with street jugglers, uni cyclists and acrobatic jumping men on spring stilts - how they didn't fall over I don't know? There was cheerful chatter, whistling, cheering, and flag waving amongst the excited crowd who eagerly awaited the big moment. It was amazing to be there to witness history in the making as the flame progressed along the Derbyshire route - I h...

Derbyshire, Eco, History, Peak District, Tissington, Tourism, Village, Well Dressings,The seasons come round so fast, it is hard to believe that it's already Ascension Day and time for the spectacular well dressings at Tissington. David was on hand to explain some of the historical farmland features, such as the dew pond, and ridge and furrow. He also talked about how we manage the land today as a commercial enterprise under the Uplands Entry Le...
This fantastic video gives a little of the flavour of Ashbourne's Royal Shrovetide football game played Shrove Tuesday and Ash Wednesday through the streets of our town. Note the pre-match training all happens in the pub! Few rules, hundreds of players, Up'ards against Down'ards (depends which side of the river you are born), and goals 3 miles apart. The "hug" is a tough place to be, not for the fainthearted! Long may the game continue. David...

archeology, Derbyshire, Eco, History, Peak District, Walking, Wildlife,Here at Hoe Grange we are fortunate to live in one of the most spectacular and diverse landscapes in the UK; no wonder that the Peak District was the first National Park to be created. I thought I would share Terry's latest video of Chrome Hill and Parkhouse Hill with you, as they are just 20 minutes down the road from Hoe Grange Holidays. Whilst not one of the official Seven Wonders of the Peak District they are well worth a visit, and Chrome Hill is designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest. The video captures how stunning our landsca...
