The first to go were some of our Belted Galloways who are about 18 months old. Having never sold any of this breed before I was a little unsure of the price to expect at market. Today was a nervous day for me and my cows - it was time for the dreaded TB test. Tuberculosis is a major problem here in the Derbyshire hills and as a result we have to test all the cows and calves on the farm for TB every 12 months. It is quite a tough and sometime dangerous task as our suckler beef cattle are free range and not so used to being handled as dairy cows who are milked every day! Christmas is coming and our 4 lovely Gloucester Old Spot pigs are nearly ready to go. They are such characters and have had tremendous fun out in the paddock - what was a lush green area is now a sea of mud and they love to dig and root around plastering their snouts in dirt and soil - they look a right muddy mess when they come in for the night!
