Browse through our blog posts to find out what life is like at Hoe Grange Holidays along with some great ideas for hobbies and days out in the Peak District.
Can you believe it's only 27 sleeps until the big day?
Christmas is coming and our 4 lovely Gloucester Old Spot pigs are nearly ready to go. They are such characters and have had tremendous fun out in the paddock - what was a lush green area is now a sea of mud and they love to dig and root around plastering their snouts in dirt and soil - they look a right muddy mess when they come in for the night!
Christmas is a time for sharing with family and friends and what better way to celebrate than with a truly local British turkey? How do you know where to find one?
Well we thought we would share our discovery with you - simply go to www.ukturkeys.co.uk and put in your postcode and up comes details of all the local turkey farmers in your area. There is lots of choice here in the Peak District.
So rather than buy from your supermarket where animals tend to be reared by intensive methods, support your local farming economy and you can be confident that you are getting a quality bird which has been reared in a more natural, caring environment. The website also has some useful cooking tips and amusing turkey trivia.
As farmers ourselves we value locally produced food; everything always tastes better when the animals have led a happy, free range life as nature intended. Vegetables and fruit are also so much jucier and full of flavour when in season, for example beetroot, brocolli and butternut squash are now at their peak.
It's not always easy to know what is in season, but help is here from the NFU with their mobile website "What's in Season" which is extremely handy when out shopping. Go on, give it a go.
Must dash - Christmas pudding to stir, mince pies to bake and cards to write!
