Ho, Ho, Ho, who's been using our stables for his reindeer this week? It's a good job we haven't had any horses on holiday this week, as Father Christmas has taken over and made full use of the stabling facilities at Hoe Grange. Rudolf and the rest of his reindeer team have been resting during the day ready for their nightime escapades with Round Table and Ladies Circle collecting pennies for charity in Ashbourne. Their tireless pulling of the Santa sleigh and kind generous donations throughout the week have raised over £1,500 so far ...
David is once again wheelding the shovel! He has finished rendering the stables for our horse holiday guests, but is now shovelling snow to make sure everyone can reach the front doors of our cosy log cabins ready for their relaxing Christmas holiday. We haven't had as much snow here in Derbyshire as elsewhere, but still plenty for sledging and snow ball fights. It is fabulous with the snow glistening in the glorious sunshine! If you haven't had time to make your Christmas cake yet, don't worry! Try this excellent last minute recipe below:...
A Testing Time! The time has come to sell some of our beef steers (male cows with some bits missing). We sell these through the local livestock market in Bakewell at about 2 years, old to other farmers who then finish growing them for the beef market. To try to control the spread of the disease all cattle must test negative before they are allowed to move ont...
Did you see the amazing programme on BBC1 this week? Save energy and use your bike! A Bang Goes the Theory Energy Experiment where they attempted to produce enough electricity for a family of four solely through the human pedal power of 50 cyclists. It really brought home how much electricity we use and abuse without even thinking about it. Amazingly just boiling the kettle was a huge drain on the cyclists and when the father had a shower all 50 cyclists were needed to cycle at full pelt to provide enough power! Later on the family went out...
They say cats don't like water and I can certainly testify to that after having to give Jaffa an extreme make over! Jaffa our ginger farm cat came strolling into the conservatory covered from head to toe in farmyard mud. I don't know where he had been to get so filthy - we can only surmise that he had been fighting with his exact look alike who must have rolled him over in the mud. Another ginger tom has recently appeared at Hoe Grange who looks so like Jaffa you think they are one in the same cat until you see them together, eyeing each ot...
