We're off to the Oscars next Thursday! OK, it's not quite the real Oscars, but it's as close as we'll ever get ... We are absolutely delighted that we've been short listed for the East Midlands Tourism Enjoy England Excellence Awards for the third successive year - amazing and worth all the dreadful form filling! The award ceremony, a very posh do - black tie and a fab new frock (not yet purchased!) - takes place at Leicester's Athena Conference Centre next Thursday 8th October. We are really looking forward to a great night out. Whether ...
The Peak District is steeped in history and as I found out the other evening some of the tales concern ghostly goings on! It was a beautiful sunny evening as we arrived in the quaint market town of Bakewell for a ghost walk led by local historian Nicky Crewe. Although I have visited Bakewell many times, as it is one of the largest local farmer's markets where we often send our animals , I discovered back street alleyways and courtyards that I was totally unware of, and of course what made it all the more fascinating was the many ghost...
Life on the farm is full of ups and downs, loss of life and new arivals. Last week we sadly lost one of our hens, the Black Rock – she simply disappeared without a trace. We thought she might reappear, but sadly not. However on the up side we have exciting news of a new arrival today! Arrival of Flash We fetched our new Aberdeen Angus pedigree bu...
Yum... very, very tasty! Yes, it's official, the delicious melt in the mouth Oatie biscuits provided as part of the Hoe Grange Holidays welcome pack are Gold Award winners in the Great Tastes Awards 2009. In fact Sarah Gayton's Oaties topped the list of gold winners with 2 gold stars. The awards organised by The Guild of Fine Foods are a benchmark of top quality speciality food and drink and are the Oscars of the food world. They celebrate passionate people who care about food, and David and I have first hand experience of how passionate S...
It's that time of year again when my wife spends hours putting together our entry for the Enjoy England Excellence Awards. Not only is it a time consuming process, but a very inconvenient one, as it also means that I have to get my own supper while Felicity taps away at the computer late at night. It's not just answering the questions and creating the entry, the time consuming part is collating all the evidence needed. Having moaned about the entire process and how neglected I was, I am now eating my words, as we have again been shortlisted ...
