A while ago we told you of our son and his friends who are planning an epic charity tractor drive the length and breadth of the country, some 2000 miles in total, on a 70 year old Massey Ferguson TE20. The Tractor they originally planned to use fell through, so they found another one recently bought by a friend for £25!! This is taking them a lot more work than originally planned to get the tractor roadworthy ready for the trip. In the last 3 weeks they have completely stripped it down , rebuilt the engine, replaced bearings, checked gearbox...

It was the fourth year we have hosted the walk as part of the Visit Peak District & Derbyshire Walking Festival, and it proved as popular as ever with 30 guests setting off over the farm fields. David was on hand to explain some of the historical farmland features, such as the dew pond, and ridge and furrow. All of Elliot's sheep have now lambed; Tia and Maria had two lambs each, whilst Coco and Channel had just one strong larger lamb each. All are doing well and growing fast with the help of their mums nutritious milk. Check out the video as the latest lamb manages to find its feet and takes its first faltering steps - amazing when you consider it is only 10 minutes old! When a sheep is giving birth and the legs are visible, the little lambs tend to be born within the next 30 to 45 minutes. Once the first lamb is born, the following lambs a...

Animals, Cows, Derbyshire, Family, Farm, Lambs, Peak District, Snow, Tourism,Spring is definitely in the air in the Derbyshire Peak District, despite the sudden return of harsh winter weather on Wednesday when we woke up to over a foot of snow, with drifts blocking the road. The sun is now shining again, which is just as well, as we have had a flurry of new arrivals over the last 3 days. 7 of the cows have had their calves, but most excitingly Elliot's sheep have had their first lambs. Guests who have stayed at Hoe Grange over the last 2 years have more than likely seen if not met our sons small flock of sheep, Tia, ...
The first guest with children since our new playground tractor was installed had a great time playing at being Farmer Brown, driving the wooden Massey Ferguson for hours at a time. This is something our eldest son Michael will know a lot about by the end of the summer, although his tractor will not be made of wood! Michael and a hand full of mates from Harper Adams University in Shropshire are to undertake a mammoth charity tractor drive, from Dover Castle in Kent to Lands End in Cornwall to John 'O Groats, Scotland and then back to Coventry...
