November short breaks

As the last of the autumn leaves fall and the festive season approaches, November is often overlooked for holidays and short breaks. But here in the Peak District, it might just be one of the most peaceful, picturesque, and rewarding times to get away.
With fewer crowds, golden countryside views, festive markets, and a warm welcome waiting at Hoe Grange Holidays, November offers something special.
Whether you’re planning a quiet glamping escape, a family farm break, or an accessible countryside retreat, Hoe Grange is the perfect base for your autumn adventure.
Autumn walks, golden views and a slower pace

There’s something magical about walking in the countryside in November. Early morning mists, the crunch of leaves underfoot, and sunlight glinting through nearly-bare branches create a calm, peaceful atmosphere.
Explore the many wonderful walks right from your log cabin or glamping pod. Wander up the farm fields and join the traffic-free High Peak Trail or head to Minninglow Hill, a fascinating Neolithic site offering panoramic views across the Derbyshire Dales.
Carsington Water is another favourite, with surfaced paths, play areas for little ones, and abundant birdlife to spot. For a touch of adventure, wander through Lathkill Dale, where crystal-clear waters and wildlife make every turn a photo opportunity.
After your walk, enjoy a hearty meal at one of our friendly local pubs:
- The Sycamore Inn, Parwich – traditional pub grub and roaring fires and a small community shop for essentials.
- The Miners Arms, Carsington – very dog-friendly with treats for four-legged friends.
- The Knockerdown, near Carsington Water – family-friendly with a great outdoor play area and steak night on a Wednesday!
Back at Hoe Grange, unwind in the log-fired hot tub beneath star-filled skies, or simply curl up in your cosy cabin and watch the farm animals outside your window. No rush, no pressure, just time together.
Markets, lights and festive sparkle

Don’t let shorter days put you off! November is full of festive magic across the Peak District. From twinkling light displays to artisan markets, it’s the perfect time to pick up thoughtful gifts or simply soak up the seasonal cheer.
Put on your gloves and woolly hat and head off to a festive market or event:
Chatsworth Christmas Market: 8th November to 14th December, a festive favourite with over 100 stalls set against the spectacular backdrop of Chatsworth House. Make the most of your visit and explore the illuminated gardens too.
Lights of Abraham, Matlock Bath: cable car rides and illuminated caverns and woodland walk throughout November.
Mercatum Artisan Market at Haddon Hall: 12th November to 14th December, handmade crafts and gifts (Wednesdays to Sundays).
Cromford Mills Maker’s Market: 16th November, crafts and local produce alongside historic charm.
Carsington Water Artisan Market: 16th November, local food and festive fun.
Sudbury Hall Christmas Market: 21st to 23rd November, in the grand hall and courtyard of this National Trust gem.

Or simply stay put

Watch the mist roll over the hills, enjoy an on-site spa treatment from The Wellness Brand, or treat yourself to a sauna session and a pedicure kit from our onsite shop.
When the sky is clear, you’ll be rewarded with glittering stars and countryside stillness.
When the weather turns… there’s still plenty to do
Let’s be honest, November weather can be unpredictable, but that’s part of the adventure! Fortunately, the Peak District offers plenty of indoor attractions that are perfect for cosy, relaxed days out when you’d rather stay warm and dry.
