Christmas at Chatsworth: An accessible winter wonderland
The festive season sees the team at Chatsworth House and Gardens transform this historic gem into an even more dazzling spectacle. And even better, Chatsworth takes accessibility seriously, so you can all enjoy the magic of the festive season together!
We love Christmas at Chatsworth - it's on the pricey side, but a truly magical festive experience. So here's what you need to know about Christmas at Chatsworth in 2025.
Chatsworth House: The Enchanted Garden
This year, Christmas at Chatsworth is centred around the quiet beauty and hidden magic of the natural world in midwinter.
Co-created with brilliant British artists and animators, this multi-sensory experience takes you into a magical kingdom where the mystical spirit of the outdoors reigns.
Discover 20 spaces transformed with light and sound, towering Christmas trees and twirling archways - all inspired by nature.
Chatsworth Garden winter lights trail

The story isn't confined to the house either - one of our favourite bits of Christmas at Chatsworth is the lights trail in the gardens. This year, it's celebrating some of Chatsworth's best-loved garden landmarks, including the Cascade, the Rock Garden and the Maze. The trail finishes with watching some projections onto the house inspired by the theme of nature - just spectacular to see!
Access at Christmas at Chatsworth - what you need to know
Parking
Parking arrangements at Chatsworth are a bit different over Christmas - make sure you display your blue badge in your windscreen as you arrive so that the marshals can direct you to the accessible parking spaces.
Chatsworth House accessibility
There is a lift in the house so you can access the whole route. However, as Christmas is one of the busiest times of year for the house, you might need to wait a few minutes to use it.
You can book a manual wheelchair to use in the house in advance. Mobility scooters are not permitted. If you have a larger electric wheelchair, it's best to contact the team at Chatsworth before your visit with your wheelchair dimensions to check.
Assistance dogs are welcome everywhere on site.
Chatsworth Gardens accessibility
The trail is accessible if you're using a wheelchair or mobility scooter, though there are a few steeper sections that might challenge your arms if you're in a manual chair! There's an accessibility map of the garden that shows the different possible routes.
As it's a lights trail, it gets very dark, so you may want to take a torch!
Changing Places and accessible toilets
There are no public toilets inside the house itself, but there are accessible bathrooms near the house entrance, and a registered Changing Places facility too.
Food and drink
There are several cafes and restaurants on-site - the Carriage House and Cavendish restaurants are fully accessible and serve some delicious grub!
Top tips for an accessible day out at Chatsworth this Christmas
To make the most of your day out, it's worth planning ahead. Here are our top tips for an accessible festive extravaganza!
Pre-book your tickets
Christmas is the most popular time of year at Chatsworth, so book your tickets early to make sure you get the date and time you want. Don't forget you can book a free carer ticket too.
It's super busy!
It can be more crowded than usual in the house and gardens over Christmas. If you know you need some quiet time, try to choose a less popular slot during the week and take advantage of some of the quieter spots in the garden for a break.
Reserve your mobility aids in advance
If you want to borrow one of the manual wheelchairs for the house or a mobility scooter for the garden, book these as soon as possible to guarantee they're available for your visit.
Be prepared
The gardens can be very cold at this time of year, and it's dark (despite the pretty twinkling lights!) - dress warmly and take a torch to save your phone battery for taking all those pretty pictures.
