A trip to Hartington Village
November 30, 2016
Artisan producers, Derbyshire, Food and drink, Hartington, Hartington Village, High Peak Trail, Holidays, Local, Market, Peak District, Village,The quaint village of Hartington is just a 15-20 minute car journey through the rolling hills of the Derbyshire Dales. Alternatively you can cycle along the High Peak Trail, cross over the A515 and drop downhill to the village. We spent a lazy afternoon wandering around Hartington to help you to plan a day out whilst you stay at Hoe Grange Holidays - the things we have to do for our guests!. The first thing we discovered; Hartington was the first village in Derbyshire to be granted permission to hold a weekly market in 1203, selling locally m...
Pumpkin carving ideas inspired by The Peak District
October 31, 2016
Animals, Autumn, Derbyshire, Family, Farm, Food and drink, Holidays, Horses, Peak District, pumpkin, recipes,Autumn is in full-swing here in the Derbyshire Peak District; our trees are full of glittering golds and beautiful browns and the nights are drawing in… which means it’s pumpkin carving time! Pumpkins (or Jack-o’-lanterns as they are also known) are traditionally made at Halloween by slicing off the top (to form a lid), scooping out the flesh and then making marks into the orange outer skin, or cutting through the pumpkin skin (caution using sharp tools!) to reveal a flickering candle light inside… very effective and beautiful at night ...
Apple Day Celebrations
October 14, 2016
Apples, Autumn, Derbyshire, Eco, Family, Farm, Food and drink, Holidays, Local, Peak District,Apple Day was first launched in 1990 on 21st October, by Common Ground. The vision was to create a calendar custom, an annual autumn holiday. Apple Day was introduced not just as a celebration of all things apple, but also as a demonstration of the variety we are in danger of losing in the richness and diversity of landscape, ecology and culture too. Over the years Apple Day has also helped raise awareness of the provenance and traceability of food, which can only be a good thing. At Hoe Grange we #LoveLocal and Apple Day events have definitely...
Boma Challenge Day

Accessible Holidays, Derbyshire, Dog friendly, Family, High Peak Trail, Holidays, Landscape photography, Off-road wheelchair, Peak District, Walking,If there's one thing that we've learnt over the last 10 years of running our self-catering log cabins at Hoe Grange Holidays it's that one thing very quickly leads to another. This is definitely the case with our amazing Boma 7 off-road wheelchair! Following on from the entertaining calendar photo shoot with marauding animals, which was a laugh a minute, we found ourselves working with Chris and the Boma team once again to host the first Boma Owner's Appreciation Day. Molten Rock was founded by Chris Swift, who became tetraplagic in 1995 foll...
Glamping pods arrive!
March 24, 2016
Building, Derbyshire, Glamping, Holidays, Peak District, self catering holiday, Tractor,Our gorgeous glamping pods have arrived safely on site at Hoe Grange. Fortunately the weather has dried up and David was able to use the tractor and trailer to take the glamping pods up the field to lift them into place. That's the good thing about farmers - they are generally very practical people, and can turn their hand to anything - David with Sam's help certainly made the whole thing look easy! We thought you might like to see a few more photos of the building progress! [caption id="attachment_5483" align="alignleft" width="604"] Ar...
