This week here at Hoe Grange we've had our own animal rescue to rival that of the TV series. One of our young bullocks (think teenage boy cow!) escaped out of the shed by squashing under the feed barrier and barging through two gates. By some quirk of fate the small gate to the muck hole, which is usually carefully closed, must have been open. The poor animal was almost completely immersed in thick muck with just his head above the slimy mess. It was pure chance that David drove past on the tractor and from his high vantage point could just ...
The snowy weather this year has been amazing and like everyone else we have had fantastic family fun at Hoe Grange sledging and snowboarding in our fields. We are extremely fortunate to have some steep enough slopes for fast, furious runs, and even the odd jump; the only maddening thing is having to climb back up the steep hill with your sledge in tow - it seems such a long way! Sledging with Twix Twix, our Labrador had great fun chasing after everyone on sledges at top speed and biting their ears, making them incapable of steering and ca...

Christmas, Farm, General, Group Holidays, Peak District, Snow, Tourism,Freddie the snowman New Year Cabin guests were surprised to wake up to a heavy snow fall this morning, they set about building a new friend 'Freddie' the 8 foot snowman. Fortunately they managed to get here in the end. Snow falls in the Peak District of this amount are very unusual these days, but with the use of shovels, road salt and the tractor we have managed ...
David is once again wheelding the shovel! He has finished rendering the stables for our horse holiday guests, but is now shovelling snow to make sure everyone can reach the front doors of our cosy log cabins ready for their relaxing Christmas holiday. We haven't had as much snow here in Derbyshire as elsewhere, but still plenty for sledging and snow ball fights. It is fabulous with the snow glistening in the glorious sunshine! If you haven't had time to make your Christmas cake yet, don't worry! Try this excellent last minute recipe below:...
They say cats don't like water and I can certainly testify to that after having to give Jaffa an extreme make over! Jaffa our ginger farm cat came strolling into the conservatory covered from head to toe in farmyard mud. I don't know where he had been to get so filthy - we can only surmise that he had been fighting with his exact look alike who must have rolled him over in the mud. Another ginger tom has recently appeared at Hoe Grange who looks so like Jaffa you think they are one in the same cat until you see them together, eyeing each ot...
