After a lot of digging things are at last heading in the right direction - the trenches in the field where the pipes for the ground source heating have been laid have now been refilled and the soil raked flat. It certainly looks a lot better, however the hens will miss their daily worm hunt following me and the tractor along - in fact I am surprised that we have still got our 6 free range hens as they get right under the digger bucket in their desperate bid to be the first to catch a worm! Trenches for ground source heating refilled O...
Hoe Grange hosted a farm walk organised by Natural England regarding the new Uplands Entry Level Scheme (UELS). Hoe Grange has been in the Entry Level Scheme for sometime and I was keen to find out more about UELS and how we could implement it on our farm. It bought a bit of a lump to the throat to see the cows that we knew so well. One of the largest pictures named 'The collecting yard' showed the cows feeding in the yard waiting to be milked. We both thought that it would be nice to have that painting but unfortunately ...

They are Mule sheep which can be seen in their hundreds around the Peak District and Derbyshire. The two girls, who are currently nameless, need an identity- let us have your suggestions for both girls. The current favourites are 'Tia and Maria'. David wanted to call them 'Mint and Sauce', but I overruled that one. Tia Maria & Ellliot Especially for Jackie from Brackendale Spa, an avid reader of our blog, try this excellent las...
