Browse through our blog posts to find out what life is like at Hoe Grange Holidays along with some great ideas for days out in the Peak District.
Even though we are in the week with the shortest days, today has seen our new photovoltaic solar system generate over 10 kwh units of electricity, it's best day yet! This may not sound a lot, but as they say 'every little helps'.... Roll on summer with 12 hours sunshine! David Tilting solar panels...
In our never ending quest to reduce our carbon footprint, the Boys from LorYan renewable engineering have just finished installing our new solar PV panel tracking system. Solar panels at Hoe Grange This clever device follows the sun across the Peak District sky as the day goes on, so that the panels are always at the best possible angle for maximum production of electricity. This should give us a 20% better output from the same panels compared with a south facing static roof system. If all goes to plan and the sun shines as it should do we ...
Pete fitting new door To keep the winter draughts at bay we have had Pinder fitted with new doors onto the decking, These new doors have multi point locking to make you more secure and to make sure the door is closed tight against the seals, keeping out those Peak District winds this winter. they also feature easy opening handles to make the decking more accessible for our less able guests. The picture shows Brassington’s version of ‘Chippy Minton’ installing the doors he hand made in a workshop only 100 m away. now you can’t get more ...

Then the professionals took over to prepare the finished levels. With a few kerb stones and careful grading they were ready for the Tarmac. Tarmac goes down...
Going Green The work continued this morning on Daisybank our new self catering log cabin. As the school was closed today for Shrovetide (more about that later) and our elder son was off college we had a family fun day laying 220 square meters of turf to landscape the garden area - so much quicker than sowing seeds! The levels have been raised to match the new ramp and make easy access to the lawn for wheelchairs and those who prefer a level approach. Even the boss had to get down and dirty, trimming the ends of the turf rolls where they met...
