Make hay while the sun shines, It may have been Sunday afternoon, but that means nothing if there is hay to move! [caption id="attachment_5775" align="aligncenter" width="320"] Made in the Peak District, a lovely crop of hay.[/caption] We were luck to snatch a good crop of hay in the few fine days this week to top up the barn ready for our equine guests this winter, It smells really nice, so why not book in to bring your horse on a holiday knowing he'll have plenty to eat. The whole family, even Felicity, gets roped in to such jobs but is s...
Spring has given way to Summer and we thought you might like to see just how much our farm animals have grown in such a short space of time! Our little Golden Top Bantum dutifully sat on some eggs for 21 days without a break and was rewarded by 3 of the 5 eggs hatching - one with a little help from David! Just seconds old with wet feathers - but mother hen soon warms the chick beneath her fluffy feathers and hey presto all three chicks look all cute and fluffy just a day later! The chicks are now just 6 weeks old and look at the differe...
Our fundraising efforts for our chosen charity Canine Partners have been boosted this month by hosting two walks, one for the Matlock branch of the National Woman's Register and one for the Erewash Ramblers, who all enjoyed homemade scones and cakes after a trek across the farm fields and local trails. Thanks to their generosity we have added another £455 to the Canine Partners charity, topping up our total to date to £1,419.69. Rio the gorgeous Canine Partners demonstration dog says a huge thank you! If you would like to add a p...

If their woolly fleeces are not removed sheep can overheat, and they can also get infested with maggots which eat away at their flesh - yuk - which is detrimental to their health and most unpleasant all round! You may sometimes see strange straggly looking sheep because if you don't shave the...
One of my favourite events of the year is Tissington Well Dressings. The amazingly detailed designs are created by pressing brightly coloured petals, leaves, twigs, and natural materials into wet clay mounted on wooden boards. There are six water wells around the village each with their own spectacular display, often with biblical themes. [caption id="attachment_5621" align="alignnone" width="586"] Tissington Hall Well - Let there be light[/caption] The origins of this ancient custom are lost in the mists of time, but what is certain is tha...
