A winter feast for the senses
Winter in the Peak District isn't just about gorgeous frosty mornings and stunning landscapes. It's also a feast for the taste buds, so here's your guide on where to eat in the Peak District. Think cosy pubs, irresistible local produce and indulgent local specialities.
With Hoe Grange Holidays as your base, you're perfectly placed to explore some of the region's best foodie hotspots. Here are six must-visit foodie destinations to add to your itinerary!
1. Fischers at Baslow Hall: a truly unforgettable fine dining experience

Set in a charming Edwardian manor, Fischers at Baslow Hall serves the best food we have ever tasted (and we certainly make it our job to test as many of the local restaurants as we can...). This Michelin-starred gem combines seasonal, locally-sourced (and sometimes grown on site!) ingredients with creative flair.
From perfectly prepared wild game to decadent desserts, every dish is a true celebration of the Peak District and all it has to offer. Treat yourself to their tasting menu and let the incredibly talented chefs take you on a journey to foodie heaven.
2. Hartington Cheese Shop: a cheese lover's dream

Nestled in the quaint village of Hartington, this artisan cheese shop serves the very best Peak District cheese. Choose from their award-winning Dovedale Blue and Peakland White varieties, or try one of the other specialist cheeses on the counter. My favourite is the Peakland White with cranberries and orange.
You can actually cycle to Hartington from Hoe Grange, so pack a cool bag and pick up a cheese board to enjoy back in your cosy log cabin.

3. Chatsworth Farm Shop: the best local produce

Chatsworth Farm Shop is a treasure trove of foodie delights, offering everything from locally reared meats to fresh-baked treats. Their shelves are brimming with seasonal produce, jams, chutneys, and more—perfect for stocking up during your stay.
Take a break at their café, where you can enjoy a hearty lunch or a slice of cake while soaking up views of the stunning countryside. Make it a day out by exploring the magnificent Chatsworth House before heading back to Hoe Grange to relax.

4. Tagg Lane Dairy: sweet treats and artisan coffee

For a sweet treat, Tagg Lane Dairy near Monyash is the place to be - even in the winter weather! This family-run farm serves up some of the creamiest gelato you’ll ever taste, made with milk from their own Jersey cows.
With flavours that change with the seasons, there’s always something new to try. Pair your gelato with a rich artisan coffee or a slice of their homemade cake for the perfect winter pick-me-up.
5. The Old Original Bakewell Pudding Shop: a slice of Peak District history

A visit to the Peak District wouldn’t be complete without sampling its most famous dessert. The Old Original Bakewell Pudding Shop serves up the authentic pudding that put this charming town on the map.
Enjoy a slice with custard in their tearoom or take one home to share. This historic bakery is also packed with other tasty treats, from freshly baked bread to decadent cakes. It’s the perfect spot to stock up on gifts—or to simply treat yourself.

6. The Gate Inn, Brassington: the best Sunday roast

If you're looking for an epic Sunday roast, head over the hill from Hoe Grange to The Gate Inn in Brassington. We're lucky that our local really does do the best Sunday dinner, with tender meats, all the trimmings and buckets of gravy. The setting is pretty special too - The Gate is a traditional village pub with low-beamed ceilings, roaring fires perfect for warming up on a wintry day, and a hearty welcome.
It's dog-friendly too, so grab your walking boots and your four-legged friend and enjoy the 40-minute hike over the hill. There are some spectacular views, and the siren call of the pub at the end will keep you motivated along the way!
Now you know where to eat in the Peak District, it's time to start planning your stay!
Winter in the Peak District really is a foodie paradise, and Hoe Grange Holidays is the perfect base for your culinary adventures.
From field to fork: meet Farmer David

As a working farm, Hoe Grange Holidays offers a unique opportunity to find out more about food production in the Peak District and to connect with where your food comes from. Farmer David is always happy to share his knowledge about sustainable farming practices and tell you about his beef cattle and sheep.
And while kids staying at Hoe Grange love to help collect eggs and feed the baby goats, you don't have to be under 18 to enjoy helping at feeding time!
Learn about the journey from field to fork, discover how the farm raises its livestock, and get answers to all your burning questions about agriculture. It’s a fantastic way to add an educational twist to your foodie getaway while gaining a deeper appreciation for the delicious local produce you’ll enjoy during your stay.
Cook your own foodie delight with our pizza oven experience

What better way to finish your foodie holiday than by using some local cheese on your own homemade pizzas! Fire up our log-fired pizza oven and create your own delicious dinner while spending some quality time with friends and family. We provide the pizza oven, logs, matches, equipment, freshly-made pizza dough and passata - all you need to add is your favourite toppings!
Local Peak District produce in our on-site shop

We have a small on-site honesty shop here at Hoe Grange - the perfect place to top up your food shop with some more local goodies. Our most popular seller (even in winter!), is the delicious Jersey ice cream from Coldeaton. You can also grab milk and butter from the local dairy, eggs from the chickens here on the farm, rapeseed oils, honey and dressings from Brock and Morten, ground coffee from Peak Bean, locally-blended Derbyshire Tea, cheese from Hartington Creamery, and bacon, sausages, Derbyshire oatcakes, black pudding and burgers from The Ginger Butchers.
Cosy cabins and gorgeous glamping

There's nothing better than returning to a cosy log cabin or glamping pod after a day exploring these foodie hotspots with your favourite local produce. Enjoy a cheeseboard paired with some locally-produced wine, or beer from Aldwark Artisan Ales, or sample your Bakewell Pudding after a meal cooked in our cabin's fully-equipped kitchen.
Book your winter escape at Hoe Grange Holidays today and get ready to delight in the flavours of the Peak District. Whether you're into fine dining or home comforts, this is a getaway your taste buds will thank you for!
