Stay in a gypsy caravan in the Peak District: what you need to know

Planning a unique and rejuvenating retreat? Here are our glamping FAQs to help you plan and organise a memorable stay in our vintage gypsy caravan at Hoe Grange Holidays near Brassington.

Nestled on a working farm on the southern edge of the Peak District National Park, our Rosehip gypsy caravan offers a magical escape, seamlessly blending nature, comfort, and adventure.

Rosehip gypsy caravan

Located perfectly to explore the Peak District, our caravan is easily accessible from cities like Sheffield, Manchester, Nottingham, Leeds, and Liverpool. Despite being so close, it feels like a completely different world where you can unwind and embrace a slower pace of life. I always say, you don't have to travel far to go on holiday, and within an hour or two after work, you can be here with us.

Our website is packed with information on what to expect, but here are some quick answers to FAQs about our vintage vardo. Book online or contact us directly for the best price and benefit from our local knowledge to maximise your stay.

The caravan is a special little place — private, peaceful, and not overlooked. You may see a shooting star, an owl flying by, and enjoy the dawn chorus.

We love sharing our special place and hope you enjoy your stay with us as much as we enjoy hosting you.

What is glamping?

The word “glamping” combines "glamorous" and "camping." It’s as simple as that!

Glamping offers the thrill of camping with added comforts. Enjoy a good night’s sleep in a comfortable bed and a spacious shower room with underfloor heating in the nearby farmyard. No need to pitch a tent or pack it up when it’s time to leave. Our vintage caravan stays warmer than a tent as it is off the ground, keeping the dampness at bay.

Wake up naturally to the sights and sounds of nature, with stunning views of the farm fields from your pillow. It’s a truly relaxing, romantic, secluded little space where guests often comment on having the best night's sleep, soothed by the hoot of owls as they drift off under the cosy duvet.

After a hearty breakfast cooked over the firepit, you can explore further afield. Walk the High Peak Trail or Limestone Way, borrow one of our mountain bikes, or bring your horse to ride the local bridleways. Our favourite walk is to Hoe Grange Quarry, a stunning nature reserve perfect for spotting wildlife and butterflies among the wildflowers.

After a day of exploration, indulge in an evening in the log-fired hot tub, soaking up the tranquillity and letting the stresses of daily life melt away. Experience a blissful retreat surrounded by nature's beauty.

Our glamping FAQs explain everything you need to know about staying in our vintage vardo at Hoe Grange Holidays.

Booking

Q: How many people does the Rosehip caravan sleep?

It's a fabulous space for one or two adult guests. If you are a solo traveller, our secure site, monitored by on-site owners and CCTV, ensures peace of mind throughout your stay.

Q: How many caravans are there?

There is just one gypsy caravan in it's own secluded space near the farmyard. However there are also two gorgeous glamping pods and 4 larger log cabins on site.

Q: Can we stay for just one night?

Yes you can stay for just one night. Bookings start on any day except Sundays and you can stay as long as you like!

Q: Can we check in any day of the week?

Not quite - we take bookings starting 6 days of the week - but even we need time off, so no arrivals on a Sunday!

Q: What time can we arrive, and what time do we need to leave?

Check in is from 3pm on your day of arrival, and check out is at 11am so we have time to prepare the caravan for the next guests. We may be able to accommodate different times if requested in advance. If arriving after 7pm please let us know.

Q: How can I book?

It's always best to book direct with your host to get the best price and personal service. You can book online or call us on 01629 540262

Q: Do I need to pre-pay for my booking?

Yes - we require a deposit of 25% to secure your booking. The remaining balance is due 6 weeks before your stay. If you book within 6 weeks of your stay the full amount will be taken at the time of booking.

Q: How old do I need to be to book?

You must be over 18 as the booking form is a legal contract and all bookings must be made by a responsible adult. The person booking must be part of the group staying.

Q: Can I cancel my stay and get a refund?

We cannot offer a refund for late cancellations within 2 weeks of arrival. Please take out appropriate travel insurance to cover your costs if you need to cancel your stay with us. See our full Terms and Conditions for more details.

Q: Do you allow children?

No - sorry our caravan has a platform pull out bed just for two and we don't allow children due to safety.

Q: Can I bring my pet?

No - the caravan isn't suitable for dogs. However we welcome dogs in our glamping pods and log cabins and you can even bring your horse on holiday!

Indoor Facilities

Start relaxing as soon as you arrive with a brew with a view! Included in your welcome pack is Derbyshire tea, Peak Bean coffee, homemade bread and biscuits, milk, sugar and butter. You will find matches, kindling and logs in the storage box behind the caravan so you can cook alfresco on the firepit.

Q: Is there a dishwasher?

No - this is glamping! We provide everything you need to wash up the old fashioned way in the outbuilding across the farmyard - eco washing up liquid, dish cloth, pan scourer, tea towel and hand wash.

Q: Is there a fridge?

Yes - there is an under the counter fridge for your use in the kitchenette across the farmyard, but no freezer.

Q: How do we cook?

There is a Woodee firepit by the caravan for cooking outdoors. We provide matches, kindling and logs for the fire. There is also a kettle, toaster, microwave and fridge in the basic kitchenette across the farmyard. Or why not treat yourself to a pizza oven experience? We provide the pizza oven, logs, pizza dough and passata and you simply add your favourite tasty toppings.

Q: Can we have food deliveries?

Yes - most supermarkets will deliver to site.

Q: What can we buy in the honesty shop onsite?

We sell frozen bacon, sausages, beef burgers, Derbyshire oatcakes from the local butcher and ice cream from Coldeaten Jersey Ice Cream,  milk, butter, cheese and orange juice in the fridge and you can order home baked bread. Other items include chutney, jam, honey, BBQ charcoal, hand soaps, room sprays, cards and a few gifts including handmade candles.

Q: Is there a shower?

Yes - there is a spacious shower room across the farmyard with underfloor heating, with toilet, wash basin and shower. We provide bath towels, bath mat, toilet roll and eco hand soap.

Q: Is there electricity?

Yes - the caravan has a porch light, 4 small internal lights and a phone charging point.

Q: What about Wi-Fi?

Yes - there's free Wi-Fi - although not the fastest internet, download speed is generally between 20 and 50 Mbps. Note signal strength may vary.

Q: Is there mobile phone signal?

Yes  - but it can be patchy and weak depending on your handset and provider. However most smart phones have Wi-Fi calling facilities - just make sure you activate this before arrival.

Q: Is there a hair drier or straighteners?

No -  you need to bring your own.

Q: Is there a TV?

No - it's great to relax and take a break from TV, but you should be able to stream a film on your laptop using the free Wi-Fi if you want.

Q: Is there indoor seating?

The caravan has bench seating inside but the best way to enjoy the view is to sit on the front porch seats and watch the sun set over the hill. There is also bistro table with two folding chairs by the firepit and two comfy Armadillo Sun bean bags to relax in the sunshine.

Q: What to bring?

If your plans are to get out for a walk, then waterproofs & boots are a good idea. Warm layers for evenings sat round the firepit. A good book, although we do have a little library for you to borrow books from.

Outdoor facilities

Q: Does the caravan have a hot tub?

Not by the caravan, but there is a log-fired hot tub in a secluded garden area up by the log cabins which you can book for your exclusive use at an extra cost. Or you can unwind and relax in the log-fired barrel sauna! Be sure to book these extras in advance to avoid disappointment

Q: Is the area good for walking and cycling?

Absolutely! The High Peak Trail is a traffic free path which can be accessed from the farm fields and provides panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. You can explore Minninglow Neolithic burial ground, follow the Limestone Way or walk over the hill to the local pub. We provide adult mountain bikes for loan, electric bikes for hire and even a secure cycle storage shed if you bring your own bikes. Find out more about cycling routes in the Peak District or download our own Cycles, Cafes and Castles route.

Q: Is there free car parking?

Yes - there is parking at the bottom of the farmyard near the gypsy caravan.

Yes - the good news is we have 3 type 2 EV 22Kwh chargers on site that you can use for free! Just bring your own cable and plug in when it's sunny or windy to use the renewable energy produced on site. Read our top 10 tips for a stress-free holiday in your electric car.

Q: Is the caravan heated?

No - there is no heating, but the caravan is warmer than a tent as it is above the dew covered ground. We provide a warm duvet, extra blankets and hot water bottles for when the nights are a little chilly.

Q: Is the site locked up at night?

No - the gates are open for you to come and go as you please, but to help keep you safe we have security cameras monitoring the farm entrance and carparks.

Q: Can I see animals from the caravan?

Yes, the caravan has an amazing view over the farm fields and you can often see our free range chickens, suckler cows or sheep. You may also see some of our wildlife such as foxes, badgers, rabbits, hares, swallows and owls.

free range chickens

Q: Is it quiet at night?

Depends on what you mean by quiet! There is little or no traffic noise, but you may hear the soothing sounds of the birds singing, or hear cows mooing, sheep baaing and chickens clucking. There is nothing better than waking up naturally to the sounds of nature.

Q: Is it dark at night?

Yes - we live in a dark sky area so there is little light pollution and you get a good view of the stars. However don't worry, if you go up to the shower room at night the farmyard lights are motion activated. so you can see where you are going.

Q: Can we walk to the pub?

Yes you can walk to The Olde Gate at Brassington (40 mins) or  The Sycamore at Parwich (75 mins), but beware of walking back over the fields in the dark. Dog-friendly pub walks

Q: Is there anything we must not bring?

Yes! Sorry, no disposable BBQs, Chinese sky lanterns, drones or metal detectors (unless we give you permission). no firearms, drugs or anything illegal.

Q: Can our friends visit us?

Yes - within reason, we don't mind a couple of people popping by for the evening, but no parties and day guests must leave by 10pm. Under no circumstances may they stay over night.

Wow! that's quite a list - I think our gypsy caravan FAQs have covered everything you need to know! So you see glamping is so much easier than camping where you have to provide all the necessities yourself and squeeze everything in to your car. If you haven't tried glamping before why not give it a go?  As well as Rosehip, our beautiful vintage gypsy caravan,  we also have two gorgeous glamping pods with luxury ensuite facilities.

Come and experience the magic of glamping in a traditional vardo, you won't be disappointed!  Our guest book reveals how relaxing it is to stay in our gypsy caravan and how the thoughtful little touches make your stay extra special.
