Browse through our blog posts to find out what life is like at Hoe Grange Holidays along with some great ideas for hobbies and days out in the Peak District.
Our resident watercolour artist Roger Allen, renowned for his landscape paintings of the Peak District, has just completed a second picture of our son Elliot.
If you remember the first painting “The boy with the broken arm”, featured Elliot standing in front of a small copse in winter, looking rather dejected with his arm in a sling. There are patches of snow on the ground and a dead sheep in the background, complete with circling crows!
The new painting “Six months later” is a complete contrast, with a cheerful Elliot stood in front of the same wood on a summer’s day, with brilliant blue skies and healthy Friesian cows grazing contentedly in the background.
A smiling Elliot "6 months later"
What never ceases to amaze me is the level of detail in Roger’s paintings, they are almost photographic. Take a close look at Elliot’s checked shirt, it is sharp and crisp, with every check lined up and it wrinkles in all the right places. Roger has an expert eye for detail and captures it all on canvas, the landscape, animals and portraits with amazing accuracy.

If you want to see Roger's outstanding work up close, the first painting has been accepted by Derby City Open Arts and is currently being exhibited at Derby Museum and Art Gallery until January 2012.
