Meanwhile up in Perth at the Island Leisure factory work commences on our new Rainster log cabin. The basic framework is put in place with all the doors and windows - notice that on this new model we have included a porch for all your coats and wellies, which will be much more practical than a shoe box in the lounge! The cabin will also have the same fantastic accessible facilities as our popular Hipley cabin with full wet room shower and grab rails, also great for hosing down the muddy children after an adventurous day out in the Peak Di...

This week it looks as though a large mole has been at work in the farm field next to the cabins, with mountains of dark earth piled high. But no - there is no mole, just David digging three large 100m long trenches for the ground source heating system for our cosy new log cabins. The ground source heating works a bit like a reverse fridge and uses a pump to circulate the natural heat absorbed from the ground through the ground loop pipes, filled with a mixture of water and anti freeze, which are buried beneath the surface. This takes the sewage from the drain system, it passes through a settlement tank the liquid is then aerated by passing air through it. This helps the bacteria in the system to break down the sewage to produce water clean enough to pass into a ground through a series of trenches. They say that the water coming from the system is pure enough to drin...

Did you see the amazing programme on BBC1 this week? Save energy and use your bike! A Bang Goes the Theory Energy Experiment where they attempted to produce enough electricity for a family of four solely through the human pedal power of 50 cyclists. It really brought home how much electricity we use and abuse without even thinking about it. Amazingly just boiling the kettle was a huge drain on the cyclists and when the father had a shower all 50 cyclists were needed to cycle at full pelt to provide enough power! Later on the family went out...
