You will be pleased to hear that following the incident with the Fox in the night there are 4 new arrivals at Hoe Grange to keep our golden silky (now named Lucky after her fortunate escape) company - well I couldn't leave her all alone. They are all Warrens, a good reliable egg laying breed, and are settling in well, although as you can see from the photo Lucky is not entirely sure about the new recruits! Who's eating my dinner! The new free range hens are a year old and already laying eggs for our guests - why not book a holiday with us i...

David seems to have spent a large proportion of the last few months down one hole or another. Someone commented on his slimline figure today, I am not surprised he has lost weight with all the physical activity! David digging again! Depsite the hot sunny weather here he is in action again digging the trench across the car parks to take the ground source heating from the pump house to the existing two cabins, so that they can also be connected to the new eco heating system. This is the last phase of building works and we can't wait to get ba...

Rainster cabin under construction in the factory Construction work continues on our new Rainster log cabin in the Leisure Ireland factory up in Perth, Scotland. The cabin walls and roof have been insulated with natural sheep wool, the outer cladding has been treated and the outside lights fitted. Meanwhile inside the final fixtures are being installed, including the kitchen units and the bathroom fittings with a fabulous Pressalit Care  wash basin in the wet room which can be adjusted and moved laterally along a horizontal track - this should...

Pump House

Building, Eco, Peak District,

Pump house sounds very grand and every mansion should have one! Well here at Hoe Grange I have been building our own very small pump house for the ground source heating system we are putting in for our new self catering log cabins in the scenic Peak District. The pipes buried under ground in the field will come up into the new building to connect to the ground source heat pump itself and then the hot water produced will be piped to each cabin in special highly insulated pipes to heat the radiators. It has taken me the whole week to lay t...

After a lot of digging things are at last heading in the right direction -  the trenches in the field where the pipes for the ground source heating have been laid have now been refilled and the soil raked flat. It certainly looks a lot better, however the hens will miss their daily worm hunt following me and the tractor along - in fact I am surprised that we have still got our 6 free range hens as they get right under the digger bucket in their desperate bid to be the first to catch a worm! Trenches for ground source heating refilled O...
