Accessibility and inclusion every day

What if a holiday could feel easy? No last-minute stress, no compromises, just time to relax and enjoy the Peak District countryside, with everything you need all ready in place. That’s what we aim for at Hoe Grange Holidays. And while Purple Tuesday might officially only be one day a year, our commitment to accessibility is something we focus on all year round.
If you’re planning an accessible countryside break, this might just be the place you’ve been searching for.
Ready to book a break that works for you? Our award-winning log cabins are designed to support a wide range of access needs with peaceful, calm surroundings, flexible options and warm personal support. Get in touch to plan your stay.
What is Purple Tuesday?

If you haven’t come across it before, Purple Tuesday is a global movement that aims to improve the customer experience for disabled people and their families across all types of businesses.
It was launched in the UK in 2018 and now reaches millions of people around the world, encouraging businesses to make real, long-term changes that make life more accessible and inclusive. The name comes from the colour often associated with disability inclusion, and the fact it takes place annually on a Tuesday in early November. The Piccadilly Lights in London go purple in celebration!
The initiative, led by Purple Tuesday, offers practical guidance and resources to help businesses implement changes that make a significant difference for disabled customers. Each participating organisation must pledge to make at least one new commitment each year, implement it, and celebrate their achievements on Purple Tuesday.
But Purple Tuesday isn’t about one day of action or performative statements. It’s about listening, improving customer service and becoming more inclusive every single day. That’s something we’ve always believed in at Hoe Grange. And it’s why accessibility is at the heart of how we designed our log cabins and how we provide inclusive holidays. Accessibility isn't just tacked on as an afterthought.
Because everyone deserves a break: How Hoe Grange supports Purple Tuesday

We have been participants in Purple Tuesday since it started and each year, we make a tangible commitment as part of Purple Tuesday, something that directly improves accessibility for our guests.
Our Purple Tuesday pledge for 2025
For 2025, we’ve pledged three new steps to support a more inclusive experience at Hoe Grange:
A new tilt-in-space shower chair

For guests who need greater support when showering, this adjustable chair offers safety, comfort and flexibility. It’s free to reserve and designed to fit into our spacious wet rooms in Daisybank, Rainster or Hipley log cabins.
A new pressure-relieving air mattress

A comfortable night’s sleep can make all the difference. This air mattress provides tailored pressure support for guests with limited mobility or at risk of pressure sores. It fits on any of our single beds, including our height adjustable electric profiling beds. It has already proved a very popular addition to our wide range of extra equipment..
We’re starting to learn BSL
We know communication matters, especially at the start of a stay. That’s why our small management team has started to learn British Sign Language (BSL), so we can offer a warmer, more inclusive welcome to guests with hearing impairments. We’re not fluent (yet!), but it’s a step towards making Hoe Grange feel more accessible to everyone.
We know how much trust it takes to book an accessible holiday. That’s why we’re always looking for ways to do better. Whether it’s learning to sign a warm welcome or making sure the equipment you need is ready and waiting in your log cabin , it’s about helping people feel at home here without having to ask twice!
Thoughtful design that supports you

Accessibility needs are as individual as the people who stay with us, and we never assume what works for one guest will work for another. That’s why we share detailed information and clear photos, so you can decide what’s right for you before you book. We've worked with AccessAble to produce Detailed Access Guides, and we are always here to help if you have any queries about our accessible facilities or extra equipment.
Each of our log cabins has level thresholds and wide doorways, but it’s the smaller touches that really make a difference:
- Electric profiling beds in selected cabins
- Mobile hoists and a Sara Stedy for easy transfers
- Spacious wet-rooms, with adjustable-height wash basins
- A wide range of additional equipment such as seat risers, bed rails and more, free of charge
- Option to pre-book support equipment for peace of mind
- Quiet, rural setting with plenty of space
- Our cosy self-catering accommodation means you can stick to your own routines
- Clear signage and flexible lighting setups that support neurodiverse guests
- Visual communication tools, sensory activity box and thoughtful design choices that help guests with autism or dementia feel calm and settled
- Assistance dogs and pets are welcome too!
We’re happy to talk things through beforehand so you can plan with confidence.
Accessible adventures beyond the cabin

A relaxing break isn’t just about where you stay, it’s also about where you can go. Fortunately, the Peak District has plenty of places that offer a warm welcome to everyone, including wheelchair users, carers and neurodiverse guests.
Here are just a few guest favourites:
- Carsington Water
Less than 10 minutes away, this local gem offers level paths around the reservoir, wheelchair-accessible bird hides, and a Changing Places facility near the visitor centre. - Chatsworth House and Gardens
A 25-minute drive, Chatsworth offers step-free routes, accessible buggy tours, and a welcoming team. The house and gardens are mostly wheelchair-friendly, with detailed accessibility info available online. - Accessible pub lunches
The Knockerdown near Carsington has a relaxed atmosphere and provides delicious pub food with wheelchair access and aan accessible toilet.
After living at Hoe Grange all his life, David has a great knowledge of the hidden local gems, and we've gathered feedback from disabled guests on what works for them too. We are always happy to recommend accessible local days out based on your needs.
This Purple Tuesday, we are proud to stand with other businesses worldwide in celebrating the strides we’ve made (and continue to make!) towards a more inclusive, accessible world. Find out more about our accessible holidays.
Watch out for the Piccadilly Lights in London lit up in purple and join us in celebrating Purple Tuesday on 4th November 2025, and let's continue to create positive change, one step at a time.
