Holidays with your horse

Horse and rider jumping a cross country jump at Hough Park

If you’re planning a riding break at Hoe Grange, you’ve probably already got scenic hacks and peaceful paddocks in mind. But what if your horse holiday could include a bit more action? A splash through water? A pop over a few jumps?

Here’s the good news: just 15 minutes down the road from our farm, you’ll find Hough Park Equestrian. A quiet cross country course with something for all levels of ability. Whether you’re schooling a youngster, building confidence, improving fitness or simply want to mix things up mid-stay, this local gem adds an exciting twist to your Peak District riding holiday.

Jump, splash, explore – and soak in the hot tub after

You don’t need to choose between happy hacking or training when you stay at Hoe Grange. With mapped bridleways from the door and a cross country course just down the road, you and your horse can have a holiday that ticks every box, right down to the hot tub waiting at the end of the day!

Why riders love Hough Park and why your horse will too

Set on gently rolling grassland with far-reaching views, Hough Park offers a relaxed, friendly space to train without pressure. You’ll find:

  • A varied cross-country course with fences at different heights, natural logs, ditches and a water splash

  • A grass show jumping course, ideal for a quick schooling session

  • A simple dressage arena for flatwork practice

  • Easy online booking and plenty of space for trailers or horseboxes

It’s a popular spot for quietly bringing on young horses or adding a bit of fun to your holiday. Most days, you’ll have the course entirely to yourself. No rush, no onlookers, just you, your horse and time to enjoy. Ideal if you’re away with friends and fancy a bit of extra adventure.

Hoe Grange: the perfect Peak District base for horse holidays

group of horses riding up Royston valleyAt Hoe Grange, we know horse holidays aren’t just about the horses (though don’t tell Rocco and Oliver that).

You'll love exploring our stunning Peak District countryside on horseback, with mapped rides starting right from the farm yard. We’ll point you to our favourite traffic-free trails, quiet bridleways and scenic circular routes, whether you fancy a gentle trek on the trail or a proper full-day adventure. Our pub rides are always popular!

But we also know that variety matters, especially if you’re staying for a week. Being able to box up and train somewhere different, like Hough Park, gives your horse new experiences and gives you the freedom to ride exactly how you want.

And when the day’s done? While your horse relaxes in their stable or grazes in a safe paddock, you can relax in a hot tub, fire up the pizza oven, or chill out and chat round the firepit with a glass of wine. Comfort for your horse, luxurious accommodation for you with lots of added extras - it's the perfect balance.

Here’s what’s waiting for you at Hoe Grange Holidays:

  • Spacious, well-ventilated stables
  • Large, post and rail grazing paddocks (can be split with electric fence for individual turnout)
  • Exclusive use of facilities for your group so you can stick to your yard routines
  • Plenty of space for horsebox and trailer parking
  • Secure tack room and feed storage
  • Washdown area with hose
  • Straw bedding and hay included
  • Riding maps - tried and tested route suggestions including our favourite pub ride (also available as GPX files)
  • Guided rides are also available to pre-book through Peak District Guided Rides if you’d rather not worry about the route or opening gates
  • Groups welcome in our cosy log cabins and glamping pods, some with private hot tubs
  • Book with confidence - we are a British Horse Society approved Horses Welcome venue

You’ll also be welcomed by Felicity, who knows exactly what riders need. She's usually found out on her own horses, Rocco and Oliver, or or making sure your four-legged friend is happily settled in. Whether you need riding route suggestions, help unloading, or just a friendly chat, she’s always happy to help.
