Introducing our new Electric Bikes

September 23, 2019 - Introducing our new Electric Bikes
-Most Recent

Our new electric bikes help to make these Peak District mountains into molehills.

Even as a fairly regular cyclist I find some of the Peak District hills around Hoe Grange a bit of a challenge, so if you haven't been on a bike for a few years they can be very off putting.

Don't worry we have the perfect answer; meet our new e-bikes.

Cycling in the Peak District

Electric bikes are a great way to get back into cycling. They still require some effort as you have to pedal to make them work, but they flatten out the hills. You can admire the superb countryside views without being out of breath, which makes those sunny trips out much more enjoyable!

Electric bike

You can enjoy cycling along with a friend as we have two Neomouv Kalyso e-bikes from local company Juicy bikes in Ashbourne. These sleek modern electric bicycles are easy to get on to, with a step through rame, and have quick adjustable seats. There is front suspension for a comfortable ride and most importantly they have a 250w crank motor to help you whizz up the steepest of hills with ease.

Why ride an electric bike?

Even without the motor switched on these easy to cycle e-bikes have 7 speed shimano gears to manage all the minor little inclines with ease, but when you switch on the assistance OH BOY it's amazing the difference it makes! You won't get stranded as the battery has a range of 40 miles, so you can really explore the Peak District countryside without getting hot and bothered and out of puff!

neomouv e-ebikeNot that you will but if you find yourself walking up any of the hills the pedestrian mode will power the bike alongside you at a comfortable walking speed.

If you happen to stop off for refreshment en route and loose track of time, no panic if it's going dark as the e-bikes are fitted with bright LED lights to help you see and be seen at all times. If you do any shopping on the way there is a hand luggage rack on the back complete with elasticated straps to keep your souvenirs safe.

Cycling Routes

There are lots of interesting cycling routes from Hoe Grange including our own "Hoe Grange cycle route - Cycles cafes and castles" bike ride along the High Peak Trail and Hartington Village. Check out our Cycling in the Peak District webpage to discover more routes. There are also lots of suggestions for Car Free Days Out so you can make the most of your stay.

What's not to like about this exciting way of exploring? Felicity has not really been keen on cycling, but she loves the new e-bikes as they are such great fun, and she has now been on several cycle rides with me.

Electric bike hire

We have deliberately kept the hire cost of our electric bikes low, so that more of you will take to the trails. Hire is just £15 per half day or £25 per full day. Electric bikes are definitely the best way to travel and you can reserve them when you book your log cabin or glamping pod. The biggest decision you have to make is, do you ride the black one or the red one!
