Shortlisted for the GTBS Goldstar Awards 2014
Hoe Grange Holidays represents one of the highest scoring Gold Award self-catering businesses graded during 2013 throughout the UK and Ireland.
We are absolutely delighted as businesses cannot enter the awards they are selected solely by GTBS on the score they attain at their grading visit.
A total of 60 green tourism businesses from across the UK have been shortlisted for the Goldstar Awards this year out of more than 2,400 entries - finalists represent the best of the best, the top 3 per cent of Green Tourism businesses in the UK.
Andrea Nicholas, Director of Green Tourism, said: “The annual awards aim to honour those businesses and organisations that have done the most to promote sustainability within the industry by implementing cost-saving practices that help the environment, improve customer services and benefit the bottom line.
Our investment in renewable technologies means reduced carbon emissions & costs
Here at Hoe Grange Holidays we are very much a sustainable business, combining a range of renewable technologies to offer low-carbon holidays.
We are both passionate about creating a wonderful holiday experience for guests, whilst leaving minimal impact and have strived to minimise our use of fossil fuels; 75% of energy needs are produced on site with a 10kw wind turbine, solar power enhanced with a tracking system, heat pumps and zero waste to landfill.
Together these initiatives have reduced carbon output by over 21 tonnes per year, which will be further reduced when we have installed the biomass boiler in September - the only missing technology will be hydro power, but that is impossible as the farm has no natural streams, or rivers, just a few dew ponds for the farm animals!
We are very proud to have achieved such a high ranking and to represent the beautiful Peak District, it certainly puts our eco and sustainability efforts into perspective. Find out what we do by visiting our Eco page, and if you have any suggestions as to how we can improve further we would like to hear from you.
David was hoping for a "Goldstar" for employee of the month, but this is much better! Wish us luck - the winners will be announced during Green Tourism Week at the second Green Tourism Conference to be held on Monday 10th November at the Palace Hotel, Manchester.
