From gentle strolls along the High Peak Trail to challenging hikes through ancient woodlands, the Peak District National Park offers adventure for everyone. We particularly love this walk over the hill to the gorgeous village of Brassington (stopping off at the Gate, a brilliant dog-friendly pub)!

But while you could fill your whole holiday with walks, there are some great dog friendly activities in the area too - perfect for adding a little variety to your stay. We've put together a list of the top ten dog-friendly attractions in the Derbyshire Peak District so you and your pup can create unforgettable memories together.
Pack some treats, and let's dive into the dog friendly wonders of the Peak District!
You might have heard of the magnificent Chatsworth House – but did you know that dogs are welcome in the stunning gardens? Pop your pooch on a lead and admire the incredible landscape architecture of Capability Brown. Afterwards, explore the historic parkland, where your dog can romp and play to their heart’s content. Be sure to stop by the dog-friendly café for a well-deserved treat – both for you and your canine companion!
Famous for the white cable cars soaring across the valley, the Heights of Abraham in Matlock is another dog-friendly day out. This hilltop park offers breathtaking views of the Derwent Valley and beyond. Dogs are welcome on the cable car ride, providing a thrilling journey to the summit where you can explore woodland walks and enjoy a picnic with panoramic views. While dogs aren't allowed in the caverns, there is a special Waggy Tails Trail to ensure no-one misses out. With so much to see and do, it’s a day out that will leave tails wagging. IF you're visiting in April or May, check out their anniversary celebrations, with live music, guided tours and new displays.
Crich Tramway Village offers a unique opportunity to step back in time and experience the charm of vintage transportation while enjoying quality time with your four-legged friend. The museum welcomes well-behaved dogs on leads, so you can explore the village, ride on vintage trams, and learn about the development of public transportation with your furry companion by your side. Enjoy amazing panoramic views from the woodland walk.
Perhaps a surprising dog-friendly addition to this list is Bakewell Old House Museum! Dogs on leads are welcome to accompany you as you explore the fascinating exhibits - perfect for a rainy day. Learn about the history of Bakewell and discover how people lived in centuries past before popping in to town for a Bakewell pudding.
Explore the charming village of Tissington with your dog. Admire the beautiful stone cottages, visit the various craft and gift shops, pick up some plants at the local nursery, and polish off a delicious scone at the dog-friendly Herbert's Tea Rooms.
Have fun on holiday and book a slot at Ashbourne Dog Field. Explore the carefully curated activities together - from discovering the textures in the sandpit, designed for digging and rolling, to developing core and hind limb strength with the ladders and full height A frame! All items have varying difficulty levels and encourage your dog to learn and develop as they play.
With 23 acres of calming lakes, shaded walks and glorious flower beds, and an adventure playground for the children, the Pavilion Gardens are a delightful way to spend a morning or afternoon in Buxton. While dogs are not allowed in the promenade building, there is a kiosk, coffee van and pop up outlets so you can grab a coffee, an ice cream, or a light lunch too.
Well-behaved dogs on leads are welcome to join their owners on guided tours of the Poole's Cavern as well as explore the surrounding country park. This means you can enjoy the captivating underground wonders of the caverns while your furry friend accompanies you every step of the way. Get some fresh air after your underground adventure by exploring the surrounding country park - we suggest a walk up to Soloman's Temple for some wonderful views!
Enter your delightful dog into one of the many local dog shows, or just pop along to enjoy some canine-themed fun and games.
Join the team at Cromford Mills in April to celebrate canine companions with an event for all ages. Enter your pooch into one of the 12 categories for your chance to take home a rosette, or pop along to just enjoy the sight of so many cute dogs in one place. I think our dog Fudge has a good shot at bringing home the waggiest tail trophy!
Bring your furry friends to the Pride in Belper Dog Show in early August. This pet-friendly extension of the pride celebrations includes canine competitions, entertainment, and a chance for the whole family to join in the festivities.
In mid-August, The Dovedale Sheep Dog Trials will showcase the impressive skills of sheepdogs and their handlers in herding and controlling sheep. This rural spectacle is not just a competition but a celebration of the strong bond between shepherd and dog set against stunning views of Blore pastures.
So many of our favourite country pubs in the area are dog-friendly! Close by, our favourites are The Old Gate Inn in Brassington, The Sycamore Inn at Parwich, and The Miner’s Arms at Carsington. Even better, there are some nice walks over the rolling hills from the farm that end up by these pubs, so you can stretch your dog’s legs before settling in for a delicious meal.
While we’ve shared some of our favourites, there are so many more dog-friendly things to do in the Peak District – so we’ve put together a map for you to explore and plan your visit.
A holiday at Hoe Grange is doggy heaven, with wonderful walks from your door and plenty of room to chase and play.
We’re not just dog-friendly – we actively welcome dogs in all our log cabins and glamping pods! We also provide a doggy welcome pack to help your canine companion feel right at home.
