Children’s Story Books by Sue Wilkins

Story time is a great way of entertaining young children whilst we are all staying at home. Books are an amazing way for children to explore the world, whilst learning without even realising it! Children's story books by local author Sue Wilkins feed the imagination, improve language and communications skills, and widen vocabulary.

Children's story books by Sue Wilkins

The books written by our local children's author Sue Wilkins are all in rhyme and are perfect for little ones. Sue has created some wonderful animal characters. To bring the books to life and feed the imagination there is also a soft toy to go with each book!

Our three children were all avid readers from an early age and particularly enjoyed rhyming stories.

About the author

Sue WilkinsSue is born and bred a true Derbyshire lass, and has always lived in the county. Whilst Sue loved reading and rhymes from an early age, she never dreamt of becoming an author.

Sue started writing little rhymes for friends celebrating special occasions in their lives. She believes her love of rhyme originated from the Rupert stories she read as a child, where her attention was grabbed by the rhyming couplets beneath the pictures and she never read the full story!

Watching her cat Alfie one day Sue was suddenly inspired to write his story for fun. Then something unexpected happened... everyone loved Alfie's story so much that Sue was encouraged and inspired to go one step further and self publish her first book. Purely by chance, she met Derbyshire artist, Liz Furness, who added beautiful illustrations so the the characters leapt into life.

The final version of “Alfie’s Story” included a mouse, so it seemed obvious that Sue's second book would feature the tale of 'Fearless Flynn".

Further stories

Sue's first two books sold well locally and she was soon commissioned her third book by the Arkwright Society. They wanted a story for their mascot, Arkwright the Duck, as a fund raiser towards the up keep of Sir Richard Arkwright's Mill at Cromford.

These stories were soon followed by two more books; the tale of three rescue kitchens, "Milly, Molly and Maisy" and then "Owl to the Rescue".

Sue started her series of books back in 2014 and is passionate about encouraging children to read. She regularly visits Primary Schools to read her stories to pupils. Sue has now twice won the Best Children’s Storybook Author of the year in 2018 and 2019 with Global Media.

Life continues in these strange times and all through the lockdown, children are still having birthdays. So here’s an idea for a lovely present for any child under the age of 8 - why not buy them a story book to read, and perhaps the soft toy too?! Here's a little introduction to Alfie's Story.

We normally sell signed copies of Sue's books in our onsite shop, but for now you can buy online at Sue Wilkins website Use the voucher code LOCKDOWN123, which gives £1 off most of products (valid until the end of May). Prices start from just £6.99.

We hope you will join #mymicropledge and support our independent #LoveLocal businesses in these difficult times, so that they will be here in the future when the Covid-19 crisis is over.
