Winter wonderland
December 1, 2010
Accessible Holidays, Animals, Building, Farm, General, Peak District, Snow,The Peak District has certainly had its fair share of the early snow this year Anyone for Breakfast on the decking? Its bought our building plans to a grinding halt. We had to dig down to the road again this morning, through an average depth of about 20 inches of snow. It certainly makes looking after the animals more difficult, although the dogs seem to love it! Twix and Crunchie up to their neck in snow And as for our easy access cabins?? 4X4 only I'm afraid! Hopefully it won't last too long David...
A smashing time in the snow

Animals, Building, Farm, Free range hens, Peak District, Snow,Having a smashing time! Yesterday the contractors came back with a hugebreaker to split the two enormous rocks we unearthed so that they could be scooped out of the way, ready for David to concrete the foundations for the new Rainster log cabin - a very effective tool as you can see from the photo. With snow, blue skies and sunshine our holiday guests also had a smashing time in the snow sledging down the steep slopes leading up to the High Peak Trail. It is however a very different picture here in Peak District today with much heavier snow...
2 foot Freddie - a shadow of his former self! Holiday guests often find it so comfortable and relaxing at Hoe Grange that they don't want to go home - they want to linger and make the most of the fabulous Peak District scenery! He has been with us since New Year's Day and whilst he started off at 8 foot tall and is now reduced down to just 2 foot, he still seems determined not to melt away entirely - he must have heard about our great January holiday offers! However I am sure...
The snowy weather this year has been amazing and like everyone else we have had fantastic family fun at Hoe Grange sledging and snowboarding in our fields. We are extremely fortunate to have some steep enough slopes for fast, furious runs, and even the odd jump; the only maddening thing is having to climb back up the steep hill with your sledge in tow - it seems such a long way! Sledging with Twix Twix, our Labrador had great fun chasing after everyone on sledges at top speed and biting their ears, making them incapable of steering and ca...
8 foot Freddie
January 2, 2010
Christmas, Farm, General, Group Holidays, Peak District, Snow, Tourism,Freddie the snowman New Year Cabin guests were surprised to wake up to a heavy snow fall this morning, they set about building a new friend 'Freddie' the 8 foot snowman. He peers over the fence from the paddock watching for a new guest to arrive. Their friend had unfortunately got stuck in the snow, so I had to go out on the tractor to find them. Fortunately they managed to get here in the end. Snow falls in the Peak District of this amount are very unusual these days, but with the use of shovels, road salt and the tractor we have managed ...
