Things To Do in the Peak District

Sailing & Water Sports

Sailability at Carsington





Carsington Water, just 4 miles from  Hoe Grange, is a fantastic place to experience a variety of water sports, including:

  • Dinghy sailing
  • Windsurfing
  • Rafting
  • Canoeing
  •  Flyfishing

Alternatively, you can launch your own dinghy or windsurfer from Carsington Sailing Club, which has excellent Club House facilities.

Carsington Water is open throughout the year and hosts a variety of outdoor events, and is also excellent for bird watching.

No charge for admission but there is a fee for car parking.

Climbing, Caving & Abseiling

The Peak District is one of the most popular climbing areas in the UK, providing challenges on both gritstone and limestone crags.


For beginners, Harborough Rocks is just 2 miles down the road; a friendly little crag with a good rock for those just starting, yet plenty of challenges for an evening’s bouldering.

For the more adventurous Froggat Edge and Stannage Edge to the north, and The Roaches to the west are within 40 minutes. Nearby are the limestone crags of High Tor near Matlock Bath and the grit of Black Rocks, Cromford.

Wirksworth Leisure Centre has an excellent indoor wall for beginners to intermediates.
