This week the team from JDB Groundworks have been preparing the car park for the new Rainster log cabin ready for Tarmac next week. As usual we have had some trials and tribulations due to the fact that we are on such a hilly site - wheelbarrowing cement up the steep hill is in itself a challenge, but especially with a squeeky wheel! Whilst sorting out the new car park we have also decided to widen the car park for Hipley to give better access for larger adapted vehicles and guests with wheelchairs. We recognise that easy access is extreme...

What a hectic week! laying turf - with a little help from the hens! David and I have been working at full speed to get everything finished for the first guests in our new Rainster log cabin this weekend. From clearing up outside and laying the turf, (helped by "clucking" hens - at least that's what I thought David said) to hanging curtains, washing crockery, cleaning, making the beds and adding the last minute little touches that make it home from home. The only things I forgot were the bread bin and toaster ! We also had a little help fr...

Work continues on our new log cabin in Derbyshire in preparation for the arrival of the first guests this Friday. Giving the pump house a smart coat David has been busy cladding the pump house with wood so that it blends in with the cabin and surroundings and is less intrusive - it's amazing what a difference it makes - proper posh! Meanwhile for those who think David does all the work, I have been busy buried beneath meters of fabric sewing and hanging curtains. The carpets are now down and the cabin is really coming to life. The sofas ar...

Gamboling Lambs

May 20, 2010
Animals, Farm,

Lambs first outing in the paddock Our cute and ever growing kade lambs ventured out into the large paddock for the first time today and enjoyed gamboling in the sunshine - so fast in fact that my photos are a little blurred! Shepherd Elliot looks on as they race around. Leaping lambs Felicity...

It's amazing that we still have all our hens! I spent most of the weekend creating the decking for the our new self catering holiday cabin, which although I say it myself worked out really well - can't wait to try it out properly in the early evening with a glass of beer! David Measuring up framework for decking With a little help from Michael laying the planks Decking complete - where's my beer?...

Landrover winch springs into action It didn't take long for the boys from Island Leisure to have the two halves of the new cabin aligned using the trusty Landrover winch, much admired by our son Michael - an off roaders dream apparently. As you can see from the photos one end of the cabin is quite a height off the ground, so to keep the building as low as possible the cabin was  placed on top of two blocks instead of the usual three.  Michael, who was home from college and the skinniest person on site, was chosen to grovel underneath the ...
